In 1979 Iranian protesters invade the American Embassy in Tehran and take 56 hostages. Six Americans manage to escape and find refuge in the Canadian Ambassador’s residence. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found and probably killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. Based on real events and classified information which was not disclosed until much later, Argo is a dramatic thriller that chronicles the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played in bringing the six Americans to safety, so daringly.
